About Us

The self catering lodge is situated on the Orkney West Mainland approx 23 miles from Kirkwall, the capital of Orkney. It is sited within walking distance of Swannay Loch and the surrounding countryside is that of Moorland and rough grassland. This setting provides a tranquil and ever changing backdrop of colours throughout the year with purple heather and golden and rustic shades of grasses.

Local Facilites

The area provides excellent habitat for birdlife and there are regular sightings of hen harrier and short-eared owl on site and in the general area, along with numerous other species, some migrants, varying with the seasons. There is a new RSPB hide on Burgar Hill, a short distance away and Red Throated Divers can be viewed from here. Brown hares are also a common sighting.

There is small general shop in the nearby village of Evie (3 miles) and slightly further afield the village of Dounby provides a Co-op supermarket with fuel pumps, a pharmacy, butcher, post office & local craft shop. There is also a cafe, bar and an excellent restaurant within the hotel. There is a GP practice situated here too for any medical emergencies.
